The Inheritance of Loss by Kiran Desai

First Book in Winter Challenge.
I have decided to start with "Inheritance of Loss" as Lotus77,Hindu Mommy and Melissa are also reading this title first. It will be fun to share our thoughts.
Well, I have finished this book and I am so upset that I really did not enjoy it at all. I just could not stay focussed on the storyline at all. I must admit however that the book was very well written but...........the story did not seem to round out for me, I could not feel any real interest in the characters. I am not a lover of storylines with continual flashbacks. I find them too frustrating.
From all the glowing reviews, I wonder if I was reading the same book as everyone else. Maybe I should read it again sometime. But sadly, I have to say, this book was not for me.

hi Sylvia!
I've posted my review on the Kiran Desai book...do tell me what you think.
Well, I finally finished reading “Inheritance”.Oh; I wish I could say that I really enjoyed this book. Somehow it just didn’t click for me. I don’t know what is was, but it just could not, for some reason, hold my interest. Yes, I agree the book was well written, and her prose is marvelous, but as I was reading my mind would drift off the story.
I am not, I admit, fond of stories that go back and forth, not necessarily in places, but in time. When a story has this drift from place to place, character to character, my interest wanes. Perhaps if it were not broken up into such small narratives. I would find myself just getting interested in a particular character, than off we would go to someone and somewhere else.
I have a feeling my mind was not ready for this book. I have read such glowing reviews I feel I should read it again at some point.
Sylvia, I responded to you on my blog but I am also curious if you will be writing a full review for this book? I'd love to read it!
wow everyone seems to be reading this!
Hi Sruthi, thanks for visiting. Yes, it certainly is a popular book. After I have finished with my "Winter Challenge" I think I will re-read it. Somehow the essence of this book slipped by me.
