I am an avid book reader. I prefer to read books by Indian authors or books set in India. I am also very interested in the Hindu religion/philosophy, so I do quite a bit of reading in that area. I also enjoy attending my local Hindu temple. It is so beautiful there, and the people are so gracious. They also serve delicious food. It is served with such love it is a joy to partake. I also am a real armchair traveller, so travel literature is a real favorite . I have also become a practising Buddhist, so I do a tremendous amount of studying, which I love. I enjoy going to my local Buddhist temple for study and meditation. Just to walk into the shrine room and see the beautiful serene statue of Buddha is very calming. I am also attending Yoga classes regularly, which I enjoy very much.I am also trying to improve my meditation.

First Post On My New Blog

Well, I did not have any notion of starting a blog. Then I read on Lotus77 blog about the Stacks Winter Challenge. As I have a mountain of books to be read I thought this would be a real incentive to whittle the pile down a bit.

The five books I have chosen are:-

Inheritance of Loss - Kiran Desai - Finished
Fine Balance- Rohinton Mistry - Finished
Cuckoo Bird - Amulya Malladi- Finished
Kite Runner - Khaled Hosseini - Finished
Nightbird - Anita Rau Badami- Finished
I do have a couple that I need to finish first, but I think I should be able to manage to get through these. I had wanted to include "Suitable Boy" by Vikram Seth, that is a really fat book and I think that would be a bit over the top for me. However, I do hope to get to it in the new year.

I really am looking forward to this challenge and watching how everyone is going. It is going to be fun.
Next post up I will do a mini "Bit about myself"

Welcome to the blogosphere HollyDolly, I'm soooo glad you're here! :)))

"A Suitable Boy" is a magnum opus indeed. BBC's Radio 7 is running a dramatized version of the book (60 min segments in 5 episodes). I'm very tempted to take a listen because I doubt I'll have the patience to read such a big book, or, I can save it and read it for bookfool's 'Chunkster Challenge'.

Looking forward to your next post!
